Champagne Montaudon is a family owned estate of five generations dating from the late 1800s, located near the Reims Cathedral with 1.5 kilometres of caves in the heart of Reims. Montaudon is one of the rare Champagne houses to do the second fermentation directly in the bottle instead of transferring. About 30% of its grapes are from its own hectares. J et R Selections has exclusive import rights for Champagne Montaudon in many of its states. Montaudon Classe M Brut nvA Wine Spectator (12.15.02) "Smart Buy," [91 rating]: "Wonderful dried fruit intensity in this distinctive, concentrated Champagne. On the dry side and racy, accented by citrus, it remains fresh and vivid trhough the lingering finish. Drink now." "M" signifies Millenium. The Classe M and Brut Millesime 1996 come in 6 bottle wood cases "Montaudon." Montaudon Brut Millésime 1996Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar [92 rating]: "Deep, leesy nose combines smoked bacon, strawberry, redcurrant, ginger, baking spices, toast, and earth; reminded me of a grand cru Chablis. Sappy, layered and tactile, with a three-dimensional, cheqy texture and impressive intensity for a Champagne with so much breadth. Comes across as very rich, even full-blown, but the strong acids of the vintage give precision to the flavors and grip to the long finish. So flamboyantly satisfying now that it's hard not to recommend this bottle for drinking over the next couple of years." Champagne Montaudon Brut nvA Wine Spectator (12.15.02) "Smart Buy," [90 rating]: "Verging on full-bodied, with pencil shaving and toast aromas followed by honey and candied fruit notes. Bold flavors and well-constituted, with a lingering taste of ginger. Drink now." Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar [89 rating] Pinot Noir 50%; Pinot Meunier 25%; Chardonnay 25%. Available in 750s and 375s. Montaudon Rose Brut Grande Rosé nvWine Spectator [89 rating] Tastings [89 rating]: "Shocking pink-red hue. Quite fruity, with strawberry, smoke, and leather on the nose. Explosive and bold on the attack, with a medium body and a Pinot Noir earthiness that runs through the finish. Packs a lot of flavor and personality. Drink now or keep for a few years." Montaudon Chardonnay Premier Cru nvWine Spectator (12.15.02) [88 rating] Stephen Tanzer, International Wine Cellar [89 rating]: "Pale straw-gold color. Exotic, musky aromas of orange sorbet and honey; almost a suggestion of noble rot. Fat, frothy and tactile, with a rather substantial dosage and an almost saline suggestion of extract. Enticing flavor of white peach. Bright acidity gives the wine good cut. Finishes youthfully persistent, firm and rather suave." |
