Vin de Pays Appellations

These Vin de Pays are Cotes du Rhone domaines with vines outside of the Cotes du Rhone AOC or which declassify some of their Cotes du Rhone vines to produce Vin de Pays. Vin de Pays appellations control the production per hectare but do not control the grapes (cepages) used.

J et R imports Vin de Pays from these excellent estates:

Domaine de l'Espigouette
Domaine du Vieux Chêne
Domaine des Amouriers

Vin de Pays de Vaucluse rouge 2000 cuvée Friande

Red fruit, good structure, very full and agreeable for a Vin de Pays. Silver medal at Tasters Guild Consumers Wine Competition 2001. 80% grenache, 20% syrah. No oak. Certified biologique (organic) wine.

Vin de Pays de Vaucluse rouge 2000 cuvée Merlot

Unique, offering attributes found in no other merlot. Well-extracted and lightly tannic, showing aromas of cherry, bramble, and tea. Very lively, spicy, and nervy, with good depth of character. Bronze medal at Tasters Guild Consumers Wine Competition 2001. 100% Merlot. No oak. Certified biologique (organic) wine.

Vin de Pays de Vaucluse rouge 2000 cuvée la Dame Vieille

Deep red with violet tints. Bouquet of ripe cassis and mulberry, with notes of vanilla. In Hour Detroit, Master Sommelier Madeline Triffon says "This is a lot of sophisticated wine for the money. Opaque purple. There's spice and smoke and lots of sweet dense dark fruit, like freshly crushed dark berries; there's some serious tannin, too." Silver medal at Tasters Guild Consumers Wine Competition 2001. 50% grenache (80 year old vines), 50% syrah. No oak. Certified biologique (organic) wine.
